Edinburgh Christmas Lights Part 1: George Street

This will be the first of a few postings over the next week with photos of the various 2021 Christmas lights and decorations in Edinburgh. Over the past week I have been out with the camera in Edinburgh taking pictures of as many Christmas lights as I could see!

For the first photo posting I have included a selection of the Christmas lights from George Street; this street runs parallel to Princes St. To appreciate the lights fully you should go and see themselves. For those of you not familiar with Edinburgh’s geography, George St is located here.

George St is one of the more prestigious streets of Edinburgh and starts at Charlotte Square and runs all the way to St Andrews Square. On it you will find many upmarket bars and eateries such as Bar 38, The Living Room, The Opal Lounge and The Dome. This is also the hub for Edinburgh’s designer stores such as Hugo Boss, Cruise and Karen Millen.

George St’s Christmas decoration involves many Christmas trees along its full length. Suspended above the pavements are many smaller trees with accompanying lights, while the centre of the road hosts larger, grounded Christmas trees, with star lights and a large illuminated star at their peaks:-

The Dome on George Street is an impressively set bar and eatery. Their own external Christmas lights certainly steal the show, as the photos of The Dome at Christmas show below:-

Just a shame about the cars! The Dome may be very early in putting their lights up; but the effect adds real presence to George St.
