Drinks at Halo

Last night, on the walk over Dean Bridge I called off at the discrete Halo on Melville Place, Edinburgh for a couple of drinks. A map showing the location of Halo in Edinburgh is here.

They have a drinks menu on every table and while I opted for the draft Grolsch at £3 a time, my friend had one of the many cocktails on offer: namely the Bangkok something or other at £6.25 a mix. Amongst other ingredients this cocktail had bourbon and thai spicies in it, giving a rather over poweringly strong taste that made me rather grateful for the Grolsch that our drinks server brought to our table.

Halo was not very busy in the 90 minutes or so were in; I think we arrived about 6pm. However it does get fairly busy in the evenings, so I think the drinks delivery to tables (and the intended tip for serving drinks!) is not in effect when Halo is busy.

The bar is tucked away from the main hub of the West End in Edinburgh, so I imagine most drinkers here know of its whereabouts rather than stumble upon it. The style of this bar works really well and you get a genuine cosy, intimate feel. It’s perfect for one on one conversations with your partner or for drinking with a small group of friends. The colour scheme is mainly white and brown, lights hang from the ceiling with (yes you’ve guessed it) halo’s around them! A projector shows music videos on a white curved corner of the back wall. Some white netting, that was in need of a clean, adourns some of the back wall: just around the corner from the main bar. Each table had little tea lights on it and the lighting of this place is just right . The chairs and tables are really comfortable and a lot of time has gone into getting the right feel when inside this bar.

I really like Halo for drinks; it’s another style bar in the West End area, but it’s got that homely/comfortable feel and while there are many cheaper places to drink in Edinburgh, there are few as nice as this wee place!
