Celebrating Burns night in Edinburgh

The 25th of January sees Scotland celebrate Burns night. One of our readers has e-mailed in asking for suggestions of how to celebrate the night in Edinburgh, other than organising your own Burns supper.

One of the more popular and large scale events is to celebrate Burns night at Stirling Castle. This event is now sold out though! But for a hefty £130 + VAT you could have enjoyed a four course Gala dinner, music and guest speakers. Oh well. The proposed Burns Supper at Edinburgh Zoo has also been cancelled.

However, below are a couple events that I’m aware of, that may be of interest to you if wanting to celebrate Burns night here in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital:-

  • 25th January: Burns night special at The Stand comedy club. £10 per ticket. This looks a decent event - laughs are always guaranteed at The Stand and while it might not be the traditional ‘Burns Supper’ you will get some tasty whisky and haggis dinner; if not the traditional readings!
  • 27th January: Burns supper and Ceilidh in aid of St Columba’s Hospice at The Corn Exchange. So it might be two days later than the actual Burns night, but it’s a Friday, so you can drink that little bit more! This is down at £35 per person

If you know anymore please add a comment to this post or drop The Edinburgh Blog an e-mail to, mailXtheedinburghblog.co.uk, where X is @. Of course many people will be hosting or attending privately organised celebrations.

Many of the pubs in Edinburgh will have some event on so it might be worth a venture out on the 25th. Alternatively if you’re after some traditional Scottish food to celebrate Burns night I would recommend Haldanes, Stac Polly or the Wee Windaes.

I hope you enjoy Burns night and welcome your input!

  1. A friend notified me today that the Jam House (Jools Hollands large live music venue that also has a restaurant) on Queen St in Edinburgh is offering a special Burns night menu and entertainment on Burns Night, 25th January 2021. So this is yet another suggestion!
