Bus Tracker system in Edinburgh

Well there I was stood waiting for the Lothian Bus number 25 outside the Omni Centre. As I looked into the night sky wondering how long the next bus would be, the answer hit me. No readers it wasn’t magic but a little LCD screen going by the name of ‘Bus Tracker’. The screen said it would be here in 4 minutes; four minutes later it arrived! Here’s a picture:-

I’m no regular bus user and it shows: a quick search on the web says this scheme was implemented at the end of November 2021. I’m only a year late in discovering it! Anyhow the initial scheme, part of which I saw, seemed to be implemented along the Leith to Straiton bus route in November 2021. A full roll out is supposed to be by the end of this year and into next. I’m not sure how it’s progressing on other routes/stops but I’ll keep a lookout for the Bus Tracker screens in the future. The official press release (Word document) has more details.

  1. Bus Tracker has been around for quite some time now. It’s a great system when it works and you are using bus stops have the bus trackers that are working. Unfortunately it has been quite often going down.
