Christmas lights are switched on in Edinburgh: with video.

Princes Street, The Mounds Norwegian Christmas Tree, George Street and St Andrew Squares Christmas lights in Edinburgh are now all illuminated!

Last Thursday I attended the switch on in East Princes St Gardens, along with 20210 other people if The Edinburgh Evening News’ figures are correct. The evening involved fireworks and professional/exhibition ice skating on the large Winter Wonderland ice rink (which is now open to the public).

The end result was complete numbness in both my hands… and the Christmas Tree on The Mound being illuminated along with all Princes gardens Christmas lights being switched on! However, it was far too cold to stay and look round the Winter Wonderland and the shops, including the German Christmas market on the Mound Precinct. However I’ll brave the cold soon and report back.

If you were there on the night or weren’t and would like to see some video I’ve uploaded some here for download (Windows Media 9 format). Any comments on the video or the switching on of Edinburgh’s Christmas Lights 2021 are welcome.

  1. Hi, Just found you via your listing at Britblogs. Great idea for a blog!

I’m hoping to move to Embra next year from Canada and I’d love to see profiles of the various areas of the city from a local’s eye-view, the kind of thing you don’t find in the tourist guides: what it’s like to live in Morningside, New Town, Leith, Cramond, what’s good and what’s not so good, etc etc.
