The Edinburgh Festivals are on their way

As we approach summertime we also approach the start of Edinburgh’s main festivals: festivals that make Edinburgh a true hive of activity and firmly put this city on the International map. Below is a little list, with key information on the main festivals coming up. I hope to cover the Edinburgh Fringe festival in fair detail on The Edinburgh Blog, and bring some reports on other festivals. If you will be attending festival events and would like your views, reviews and pictures published on The Edinburgh Blog please drop me an e-mail at mailXtheedinburghblog.co.uk, where X is @.

  • Edinburgh Fringe Festival - 6th - 28th August 2021.According to the Guinness Book of Records this is the largest Arts festival on the planet and absolutely anyone can stage a show (finance permitting!). This years free program is out the 8th June - so make sure you grab it and make your bookings!
  • Edinburgh International Book Festival: 12th - 28th August. Charlotte Square comes alive with a mini book-village occupying the grass square. Programme details are released 16th June, so find out which book you can get signed or what talks you can attend then.
  • Edinburgh International Festival: 13th August - 3rd September 2021. Tickets went on sale Saturday 8th April and according to media reports have enjoyed record sales. For me, the highlight is the spectacular firework display that ends this festival!
  • Edinburgh International Film Festival: 16th - 7th August 2021. This will be it’s 60th year and no details nor date of when the programme is released are yet available. Expect the Filmhouse on Lothian road to come alive come August though.

In addition to these the children’s festival, art festival and jazz and blues festival are all to be held in Edinburgh through the remainder of 2021. Here’s looking forward to a great 2021 festival season!
