Edinburgh Book Festival open for BOOKing
The Edinburgh Book Festival 2021 programme is out now and events are available to book. I hope the Edinburgh Book Festival know more about books than websites, as their online booking system is broken at the time of writing, and has been besieged by problems since booking opened on June 16th.
Charlotte Square Gardens plays host to The Edinburgh book Festival from the 12th to 28th of August. Expect a mini ‘book village’ to open in the gardens, with packed rooms for guest speakers, book signings and workshops. The Edinburgh Book Festival is fantastic for adults and children alike; popular events should be booked in advance, but an ad hoc visit is always worthwhile.
Some highlights are:-
- Writing workshops, including “Making a submission to a literary agent” and “Performance poetry”
- Some fantastic authors giving talks/readings including Seamus Heaney, Harold Pinter, Joseph Stiglitz and Irvine Welsh
- The sheer number of readings/workshops for children such as ‘perform a story’ in the ‘imagination lab’ or ‘cartoon illustration masterclass’
Some events are free, and tickets can be picked up on the day of the event. The more prestigious events, such as the writing workshops cost around £10 each, while a seat infront of Seamus Heaney costs £8 while Tony Benn, in his meet the author session, will cost £7. As you might expect, the Edinburgh book festival also has a book shop that stocks a great collection for children and adults (including work by visiting authors).
Perhaps a more reliable way to book tickets than the Edinburgh book Festivals website is by phone - 2021 373 5888, or in person at the Book Festival Box Office, in the Waterstones book shop on Edinburgh’s George St.
