The List Eating and Drinking Guide 2021-2021 Out Now

The 14th edition of The List magazine’s Eating & Drinking Guide is out now and comes bundled with the current edition of The List magazine. The cost is unchanged from last year at a very reasonable £3.50.

For those of you not in the know the List magazine’s Eating and Drinking Guide acts as a bible for the Edinburgh and Glasgow eating out scene. Inside you will find over 800 restaurants, cafes and bars reviewed, including over 100 new venues from last years edition. The guide is horizontally split between Edinburgh and Glasgow, while vertically it’s split by food type e.g. bistros, bar food, French, Indian, Scottish, takeaway. A hit list in each vertical section points the reader to the reviewers pick of the eateries and an excellent map in the back pinpoints each venues exact location.

Awards are also handed out with Edinburgh’s best restaurant going to The Kitchin in Leith, which will round off a great start to Edinburgh business for their chef Tom Kitchin, who has also gained a Michelin star. Abstract won Edinburgh newcomer of the year while First Coast won best budget restaurant of the year. I’m a little surprised by the First Coast victory in this category, as with sea bass for main costing £13.50 I’m not sure this particularly fits into my definition of budget. On page 10 is the Edinburgh Hitlists 2021 where the best restaurants in each category are listed. I was pleased to see The King’s Wark get a mention in the bar and pub food category; Chop Chop in the Chinese; Sushiya in the Far East; La Favorita in the Italian; Dusit in the Thai; The Vintner’s rooms in French and Ignite together with 9 Cellars in the Indian section. After counting all the restaurants on the hitlist I noted that in total I’d visited 26 of them. Not bad, but still plenty to go.

As ever The List will make their Eating and Drinking Guide available in due course through their website, but I strongly recommend heading to any respectable newsagent and picking up the printed copy for yourself. Keep it close so you can refer to it throughout the year when deciding on a lunch or dinner venue!
