Lunch at Tonic
For lunch today I went to Tonic on North Castle Street, Edinburgh. This is a stylish basemnt bar, with neat seats and a good decor. It pitches itself at the upmarket cocktail bar market. However, I went for a £3 pint of Stella Artois and my dining partner, on her lunch break, had a couple of Diet Cokes at £1.35 a time.
The service was very prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. And I have to say the food, for lunch, was rather good. I went for the 1/2 lb burger, which infact turned out to be two burgers served on a bun with salad (£7.65). Accompanying this was a pot of tasty fries, with a ketchup dip and I ordered a Tomato Salsa dip for 75p extra. The burger was superb, and evidently home made, with great texture and seemingly quality meat and onions used in its making. My dining partner had a warm cherry primavera (£7.45) which scored highly with her. The portion size was ample. For £21.30 for Lunch for two people, Tonic provided quality bar food at affordable prices. It’s definately somewhere I will go to again for informal dining and I’d recommend calling in, whether for drinks (they have a good reputation for cocktails) or a bite to eat (they had a fair selection on the menu, including tasty looking paninis and ciabatta). It’s just the kind of place to head to after a Saturday morning of shopping, with it’s location just off George St.
