Fantastic patisserie - La Cerise

Even when I visit somewhere good it’s usually a while before I visit again. It’s that search for something better, something different; the “grass is always greener” syndrome. So, in my world at least, a place must be exceptionally good to warrant visit after visit. La Cerise, with their original patisserie in Leith and now a second cafe in Goldenacre, is that place. Sometimes I visit for sit-in coffee and cake and other times I’ll just take some of their fantastic products away to eat at home.

La Cerise in Leith is a beautifully crafted patisserie located on Great Junction St. A slick interior with an effective black, green and red colour theme is a statement of intent. Inside the laidback and enjoyable atmosphere, which a place like this thrives for, is delivered with aplomb. A range of hot food, such as spinach, chicken or chorizo strombolis (£3) are on offer alongside the home made, additive free cakes and croissants.

Just £1.90 (takeaway) will buy you a beautiful strawberry tart or delectable looking pecan pie. Some of La Cerise’s offerings resemble works of culinary art. But when something looks this good it must be eaten. I’ve sampled La Cerise’s cream filled eclair, coffee opera and raspberry cheesecake. All of which were faultless, although the richness of the coffee opera gave it the gold medal. A wide range of tea and coffee is available, with a pot of tea costing £1.50. I can’t wait for Edinburgh’s Summer to arrive, so I can try some of La Cerise’s homemade ice cream.

La Cerise is a wonderful addition to Leith. While the location won’t be to everyone’s convenience it really is worth a special journey across town. Highly recommended.

These look delicious, I’m hungry now!

  2. I live near the Goldenacre one, but haven’t tried it yet. Do they not sell ice cream till the summer, or did you not fancy ice cream in the cool weather ? I love home made ice cream :)
