The Edinburgh Blog

Armed with my day rider card I have just returned from the spectacular fireworks display at Meadowbank stadium in Edinburgh. Earlier on in the week after being advised tickets were selling quickly I reserved a couple of tickets over the phone and paid £4.50 each plus a £1.50 booking fee.

I arrived about 2021 and a large sign near the outdoor ticket collection booths said the event had completely sold out. There were large queues waiting for the gates to open into the stadium, but the system was well organised and picking the tickets up and gaining entry inside Meadowbank stadium was easy enough. Until the show started just after 7.30pm entertainment was provided by ‘Real Radio’ DJ’s and music, typical of what you would expect at such family events, was pumping out. There was also ‘mass hysteria’ at some competitions giving away such gems as ‘Real Radio’ pens and t-shirts. Rather more impressive were the two fire performers. And the kids seemed to enjoy the 4 or 5 well dressed clowns.

The actual firework show lasted around 25 minutes ; it was fully automated and to music. I have to say it was spectacular and hugely enjoyable. For the small the cost it was worth every penny and was one of the most impressive, intense and relentless displays I have ever seen. Overall the Edinburgh fireworks at Meadowbank stadium were superbly impressive and a fine public display to aid the enjoyment of Bonfire night. Oh and candyfloss was available too…for £1.50!
